Abstract

This article takes into cognisance an overview of the global problem of child labour and violence against the child with emphasis on strict policy implementation as the panacea to the menace. The paper argued that to appreciate meaningfully issues related to child labour and violence against the child, the definition should be culturally inclined. Within the purview of many empirical studies, violence against the child as well as child labour is experienced by ten(s) of millions children in Africa, Latin America, Asia and other developing countries. It has many deleterious consequences for most of the children. Recommendations for the prevention of child labour and violence against the child are presented in synopsis terms of public enlightenment, education, pro-active research, as well as adjustment in value orientations that generate degradation, abject poverty which promote merchandisation and inhuman exploitation of children in Nigeria.
